Back Again! It’s Been a While…

Hey there! Ok, so last time I posted was something like July 8th or 9th, and now it is September 24th… Way too long in between!

I have still been journaling, I just haven’t shared those piles of word garbage online. But when I got back on here, I saw that my post had a few comments on it! Which is awesome. Vivaldi has really built an awesome, small community that really supports its own. And I am glad to be a part of it.

With that being said, I have been using Vivaldi even more extensively, and have fallen in love with a few more features I thought I might share.

Mouse Gestures

Man, mouse gestures freakin’ ROCK! I use them all the time. My two favorites have to be swiping down and back up to reload, swiping down for a new tab, and (I think) swiping up for a new background tab. Someone please fact check me on that last one. I am writing this on my iPad, so I can’t check Vivaldi settings 😂

Tab Splitting

This is one that I have known about and used a bit in the past, but recently I have really started to love it, as it really helps when it comes to things like note-taking and budgeting specifically. One thing I wish though, and I am not sure if this is an issue on the Vivaldi side or the site side, is that there could be better support for horizontal scrolling on windows that are too small in split-screen mode.

Notes

Speaking of note-taking, the notes feature is freakin’ sweet! I love that I can copy text, images, etc. and save it in a note for later. And the fact that Vivaldi has an amazing sidebar that you can pin notes in makes it even better and more accessible. Absolutely love that.

Search Engine Features

Ok… I saved the best for last here… I ABSOLUTELY ADORE the fact that in Vivaldi, you can set so many different, obscure, random search engines.

Not only can you right-click a search bar and add it automatically (if the site supports it), but you can go into Vivaldi settings and add them in there as well. As many as you want. It is absolutely brilliant, and if I ever wanted to move away from Vivaldi, there is no doubt that this feature would persuade me out of it.

Welp, that’s that! Those are my updates of word puke. Don’t worry, I won’t always post about Vivaldi related stuff, but hey, it’s been a while… my mind is on Vivaldi again… sue me.

Thanks for reading, I look forward to vomiting on you again soon.

A Trash Bin for Words in My Brain | Vivaldi4.0

Alright, so for a long time, I have liked the idea of journaling, but it has always been so difficult for me to get into. I never really knew why, but I think it’s because when you have a private journal, it feels like you are keeping those words close to you for safekeeping, and that they are a treasure. But that’s not really what I want. I want a place where I can vomit out random words and thoughts, and publish them for the whole world to see, should the world want to read what my mind thinks of randomly.

Vivaldi 4.0

So that’s what this blog is going to be for me! I have recently started falling in love with Vivaldi. I have used it before and thought it was cool and everything, but I never really understood the hype. But with the 4.0 update, I feel like this is a browser made for those who care about quality time on a computer. Sure, maybe Vivaldi doesn’t have the best reputation for privacy, but in my opinion the only real reason for that is because of a lack of some code being open source.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge advocate of open source, but I don’t think that a company being less than 100% open source is necessarily a bad thing. It doesn’t mean that they are up to anything evil. It just means that they have assets that they want to protect, and that’s understandable. What it comes down to is whether you choose to trust the company, and so far Vivaldi has not given me any reason not to trust them.

Features I love

With the 4.0 update, a lot of things came in that I wasn’t expecting as I wasn’t following Vivaldi development at the time. Mainly the three big ones, which I am in love with. Calendar, Mail, and Feeds.

Feeds is an amazing feature. I love to read random blogs and articles on the internet, and I have always struggled to find a good and cross-platform RSS reader. And even when I found a somewhat decent one, I still had to hunt down the RSS feed since websites don’t often post them anymore. But with feeds, I get a little icon in the top right of my search bar that locates the feed for me and adds it to my list of feeds, notifying me whenever a post is made. Could not ask for better.

Calendar is also really cool in this new update. I don’t use it as a stand-alone calendar, because I am on iOS and Vivaldi has not made an iOS application for reasons we can get into at a later date. But it is extremely easy to subscribe to an Apple Calendar or link a Google calendar, and there it is, right in your browser wherever you go (if you sync).

Mail is a feature that I think I will love, and actually have yet to really try out. I like the idea of it, but I am not sure whether I am ready to use it as a regular email address. I use Protonmail, and I pay for the Plus subscription, so it is difficult for me to justify moving to Vivaldi Mail while I have the power of Proton at my fingertips, but who knows? If Vivaldi keeps making strides like this, anything is possible.

Wrapping Up

I love Vivaldi 4.0, and I love vomiting my words out onto a page that most people won’t ever read. The fact that someone might, though, is what keeps me wanting to actually make a blog.

Thanks for joining me!
